 How are you?

I’m fine!

I am enjoying my stay a lot.

We get along very well.

We had supper at home.

I was surprised.

That is not etraordinary for an American family.

In the fridge

Later I experienced the next difference

That is one of those essential things they never teach you in English class.

It is cosidered impolite to blow your nose at table or in the classroom.

trousers

pants

What also surprised me is…

When you go to the supermarket, the cashier does not say “Hi”, but says “Hi, how are you?”

I am always tempted to say, “Thanks, I am fine”, but I have learned that it is better not to answer, but to ask the same question in response.

I also have to geht used to going to church.

My host family belongs to a baptist church.

Young couples usually are’nt allowed to spend the night together

This rather conservative attitude also becomes apparent at school.
